The annual ACS Student Chemistry award meeting was held at the Berkshire Sunday April 10, 2011. The award meeting is held each year to celebrate the top chemistry students from each institution and to allow friends, family and teachers to celebrate their accomplishments. Awards were given to 19 students from 19 colleges and universities in our area. The Speaker, Dr. Mary Kirchhoff, from the American Chemical Society Education Division, gave a fascinating talk on the challenges and opportunities facing science education today and highlighted the education resources offered by the American Chemical Society. Each student awardee received a Certificate, a Merck Index (provided by the Merck Company), a printed copy of the April Edition of the Chesapeake Chemist and a coffee mug with a periodic table embossed. 90 people including all 19 awardees attended the luncheon and meeting.
